E3 2010 is over, and I finally have had a chance to recover and recharge my batteries and am ready to tell you all about it!
For those of you that don’t know what E3 is, it is The Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3 for short) and is a big convention displaying all the new games and technology coming out for the next year. All the big players are there Microsoft, Sony & Nintendo; plus a lot of developers and publishers, EA, Activision, Take 2, THQ, Capcom, plus a few smaller companies and distributors. This is an industry only event and is not open to the public, which is a total bummer. But on the plus side, I was able to go because of the store and also I was able to bring along a few friends & employees this time around for ummm…..research…Yeah, that’s it! Research. That’s right, it’s E3 time… Which means I’ll be up in LA for the next few days looking at, and trying out all the new stuff coming out for the rest of the year!
As usual I’ll bring along my handy dandy camera and take plenty of pictures of all the newest stuff and plenty more pictures with all the booth babes!
Also I’ll be getting lots of Swag soooo post your thoughts and predictions and what you want to see at E3 and maybe I’ll have a contest or two and some giveaways!
So tell me, what are you looking forward to at E3?
Alright boys & girls…Here is the next Gamecast! I truly hope you all are enjoying The Gamecasts so far. I am going to change up the format a bit in the coming episodes, so I will be taking suggestions on various gaming topics, so please leave a comment or two about what you would like me to change in the Gamecast.
Big Awesome Super Amazing Contest/Promotional Stunt Time:
After posting this video, R* (Rockstar, the creators of Red Dead Redemption) actually contacted me and gave me a few codes for ingame items. Gold Guns, War Horse and Deadly Assassin’s outfit. I figured why don’t I create a contest to give away two of them? Info after the jump Continue reading »
OK…..I LOVE Westerns. With a passion. So with that said, I was always looking forward to the next Red Dead game after Red Dead Revolver, which came out in 2004. I thought it was an awesome game….then Gun came out and blew it out of the water with the open ended world type of GTA gameplay style. Now that Take 2 bought the rights to it and Rockstar was given the reins….who could go and give Gun a run for its money. I mean, if you want to make a game that is better in every single way, I say give it to the people who really created the genera of Sandbox gaming. Rockstar has done a amazing job with Red Dead Redemption. If you like Westerns, or even just like GTA at all, I highly suggest that you pick up this game now. I will write a review as soon as I finish the main story.
Well, it’s Mothers day again and I just give what the kids are saying “A Shout out” to all moms out there awesome enough to give us life, and with that life, give us money to buy video games.
I’ve seen a few moms come into the store today with their kids and buy them video games. How awesome is that?! Even on their own special day they are doing things for us. Seriously guys, just go up to your mom today and tell her you love her and appreciate that she’s tried to do the best she can for you. No one is perfect, but at least she tried. So to all moms out there today, Happy Mothers Day!
I was at Disneyland and my friend and I were talking about old school games and we started talking about Super Mario Bros. 2. Since I haven’t had time to put into RPGs lately, I thought this would be a good first attempt at a Retro Review.
Just a quick note on Super Mario Bros. 2. SMB 2 is actually not really the second mario game. SMB2 was actually a little game called Doki Doki Panic 2. It was a different game and had Mario characters put into it. The real Super Mario Bros 2 game was finally released onto The Super Nintendo in the Super Mario All-Stars game called Super Mario Bros -The Lost Levels.
Ok, First off you get to pick your character, as a kid I always picked Princess Peach because each character has a special talent. Peach hovers a bit in the air while jumping, Luigi jumps really high and so on.
So, since this game is different, when you jump on an enemy, you can’t kill them, you basically ride on top of them. Then you can pick them up and throw them. If you throw them into another enemy, then you can kill them. Or you can pick up a few of the vegetables in the ground and then throw them into the bad guys.
The “Boss” characters are different too. The first “Boss” you come in contact to is Brido, who is a character who’s gender is apparently undetermined at this point. As a kid I had no idea what to do, so I’d jump on the egg and ride it to the end of the screen. Once I figured out how to do it, the rest of the game was a sinch. All you really have to do is jump on the egg when Birdo shoots it at you, and then pick it up out of the air, defying the laws of physics and gravity and throw it back at Brido.
Once you kill Birdo, you enter some random door that looks like the head of an eagle and then goes into the bonus stage. The bonus stage is a slot machine where you can get extra lives if you match up the images. The number of tries depends on how many coins you get in the “negative zone” which is the zone you get to when you pull out random potions out of the ground and throw them on the ground. Once you throw the potion on the ground, it makes a door appear and when you go through the door, you go into the negative zone. The negative zone is exactly what area you were in on screen, but without enemies and the ground is all in black. If you pull up something from the ground that is a regular vegetable in the normal world, it will be a coin, and that is where you can get more tries in the slot machine bonus stage. When you pull up something that was a potion in the real world, you get a Mushroom which will either restore part of your life or give you an extra slot for life and also make you bigger as well.
See quite different than the normal run of the mill Mario game. If you ever want to try this game out, come into Games 4 U and we’ll be happy to set it up for you and let you see how extremely weird, yet awesome this game, that had nothing to do with mario, actually is.
OK, since it’s been a pretty big dry spell in the gaming community with new games. I was thinking of doing a retro game review. I can do a ton pretty quick. So anyone got any games that they want me to review?
I think I might make this a regular topic on here. The “You know what would be cool” posts. Where I just discuss a cool idea that is somewhat game related.
Anyways, You know what would be cool? A Bioshock Ride. Yeah, like an amusement park ride. Done in the same way as “Finding Nemo” the ride at Disneyland. “Miles, how did you come up with such an awesome idea?” You might be asking yourself…Well, I was at Disneyland with my lady friend over the weekend and she had never been on the Finding Nemo ride (Or the Submarine ride as it is known to everyone over the age of 20 when we remember what was there originally) Well, as we were riding it, I started to think about how awesome it would be if either Six Flags or like Universal Studios made a theme park ride just like Bioshock. (I mean, they are making a movie, so if it was made by parent company Universal it could be totally do-able) It wouldn’t be very hard.
First off, make the Queue line, look something like the old lighthouse in the first game, where you start at the top of a hill or something and then spiral stairs in to a dark cave with the Bathysphere. These are the vehicles that you will be put into, All the ride employees are dressed in tux and dresses as you look around and see that it is New Year’s. Set dressing would include bottles of champagne all around, cake, streamers, and various good times. Once you are loaded into the bathysphere you are then closed up and a familiar voice comes over the intercom. Andrew Ryan, welcoming you into the world of Rapture. The audio sounds a little outdated and muffled, as Mr. Ryan is done introducing himself and his idea to you, the walls open up to the opening shot of Rapture, where the bathysphere goes by the various sea life and even ADAM leaches and pulls up next to a docking station.
Something hits the bathysphere, knocking it off course and you are alerted by Atlas that part of the sea wall has fallen and you need to go to a different docking station. You start to go around the building and hear the sound of machine guns firing as Atlas tells you that the splicers have formed a mob and are trying to take over Ryan. You see a few shadows get mowed down by turrets and flying security bots. A Big Daddy surprises you as he is out on the sea floor and you pass by him while he is repairing a whole in the wall.
You come across a blown out and sunken building and it is the only way to get to where you need to go, so you proceed slowly with the lights dimmed down and enter a ball room of a hotel. Everything is eerie as you see floating bodies pass by the window and are moved as you go through the hall. A loud sound happens and you a Big Sister attacks you… you start moving faster and try to get rid of it. A Big Daddy is seen in the next building and put the little sister into the vent hold and rushes out and attacks the Big Sister. Atlas opens up the docking bay doors. He tells you that this is the back entrance to Ryan’s office and that the mob is ready to confront Ryan. As they try to break down the door to his office, a group of splicers come in and blow the docking bay. You find that Rapture is falling down all around you and that you have been damaged and have to return to the lighthouse to repair your vessel. A repair crew helps you out of the bathysphere and as you walk out of the ride you see Big Daddy suits on the other side across from being helped out. You walk out as you hear “Beyond The Sea” playing in the background.
That would be cool.
You come back around to the lighthouse and are pulled into a bathysphere repair docking bay.
